Definitions

Health (1)

Limiting long-term illness covers any long-term illness, health problems or disability that limits daily activities or work.
General Health refers to health over the 12 months prior to Census day (29th April 2001).
Provision of unpaid care: persons looking after, giving help or support to family members and/or neighbours because of long-term physical or mental ill-health or disability or problems relating to age.

Qualifications (2)

Level 1 = 1+'O'Level passes, 1+ CSE/GSCE, NVQ level 1, Foundation GNVQ
Level 2 = 5+ 'O'level passes, 5+ CSEs (grade 1), 5+ GCSEs (grades A-C), 1+ 'A'levels/'AS'levels, NVQ level 2, intermediate GNVQ
Level 3 = 2+ 'A'levels, 4+'AS'levels, NVQ3 Advanced GNVQ
Level 4/5 = First degree, NVQ 4/5, HNC, Qualified Teacher, Doctor, Dentist, Nurse, Midwife, and Health Visitor

Travel to work (3)

Public transport is defined as underground, metro,light rail, or tram, minibus, or coach (but excludes car-sharing)
Average distance is the distance in kilometres of a straight line between the residence postcode and the workplace postcode

Household Reference Person (4)

Determines a 'head of household' from all members in the household by using a criteria based on economoc activity and age.

Amenities (5)

Occupancy rating is a census measure developed to calculate household overcrowding. It assumes that every household, including one person households requires a minimum of two common rooms. E.g. - 1 implies that there is one room too few.
